Hough on the Hill      Celebration of the Royal Wedding 2011

The residents of Hough on the Hill, and their guests, celebrated the recent Royal Wedding with a traditional street party in the village. High Road was closed to traffic for the afternoon and tables and chairs were laid outside  the Brownlow Arms  in the village square.     140 or so attended.

The area was decked out in traditional Union Jack styled bunting and most revellers wore red, white and blue in some form or another.

Ryan told  me that lots of  villagers brought along lovely salads and some wonderful puddings and put them all on the table to share with every one.  Ryan also said that the games were very good and he explained the horse racing game with wooden horses was enjoyed by many.

Jack’s giant barbecue provided the cooked meats, with 2 large joints of beef and pork that had commenced the cooking process at 7 am, along with sausages and baked potatoes.

Various competitions throughout the afternoon were held including best designed wedding hats as well as a variety of races for all ages in the Church Yard.

The weather stayed fair throughout the day and it was good to see our village enjoy itself collectively and spontaneously -

Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee

Several people have already mentioned the next street party may be the Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, which although will be in Feb next year, many villages are planning events for the celebration in the summer.

So feed back to me any suggestions for this event.
